One of the most visited sites at Prospect Hill Cemetery is the Dan Allen/Anna Wilson monument, which bears testament to their wicked love affair. An unmarried couple resting peacefully together for all of eternity under a large granite slab.
In late 19th century Omaha, Dan Allen and Anna Wilson embarked in a scandalous love affair. Each came to Omaha and entered into...well...we'll call it less than desirable professions. They were quite successful and enjoyed a very comfortable life style. When Dan passed away of consumption in 1884, Anna had an elaborate monument placed at his grave site. She visited regularly and was known to leave fresh cut flowers at his grave. After Anna's death in 1911, a dear friend of hers followed the tradition, leaving yellow roses in memory of her friend.
Miss Wilson was a generous benefactor to the poor of Omaha, leaving a fortune to numerous charities including the Poor People's Home, the Creche Children's Home, and Prospect Hill Cemetery, among others. During the memorial day celebration, Prospect Hill Cemetery remembers Anna by reciting a eulogy and placing flowers on the grave.
